SUMMARY:Self Care to Collective Care in Challenging Times - August 5
DESCRIPTION:Strategies for Personal & Collective Care During Challenging Times\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis free webinar explores a variety of approaches and meaningful ways that we can engage in self and collective care. We will reflect on strategies to sustain ourselves in the work\, to deepen our understanding of trauma-informed practice\, and to care for ourselves\, our teams and our communities. \nAs we find ourselves witnessing and living in increasingly complex and difficult times\, it is crucial that we learn ways to care for ourselves so that we can care for those around us. This workshop explores vicarious trauma and trauma-informed practices through a social justice lens as well as techniques such as grounding and orienting\, self-soothing\, setting boundaries\, finding our window of tolerance\, making space for rest\, and more. \nThis session will feature a comprehensive presentation\, followed by a live Q&A. \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\nKarine Silverwoman (she/her) \nConsultant \nKarine is a passionate practitioner\, consultant\, and educator with over 25 years of experience in the social work field. Her work is informed by an understanding of how trauma and oppression impact out bodies and communities. Karine has extensive training in trauma-informed therapeutic approaches\, clinical supervision\, and leadership. She is also adept at helping frontline workers and other practioners deepend their skills and align their work with their values. \nKarine has worked in a wide variety of settings and roles\, including director of counselling for a work instructor at Tornoto Metropolitan University and George Brown College. Her approach is guided by social justice\, anti-colonial\, queen/trans affirming\, and strengths-based lens. As a trainer\, Karine takes a trauma-informd approach to create brave\, reflective learning spaces. She interweaves practical examples\, humour\, and an ethic of care into all her training\, and beleives in a world where everyone should be able to live with dignity\, safety\, and belonging. \n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Preparing for Difficult Conversations - August 20
DESCRIPTION:For Community Social Services\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this session\, participants will learn how to effectively approach challenging discussions that arise in professional settings using Non-Violent Communication (NVC). In the workplace\, and in life\, the ability to communicate with clarity and confidence is essential in order to advocate for one’s own needs and to articulate one’s opinions\, recommendations\, and feedback. This webinar will guide participants through an understanding of what makes speaking up so difficult\, and offer key strategies and tools to better understand how to let one’s needs and values be known in a productive manner. We will explore the importance of self-awareness\, empathy\, and how to use NVC in order to create a safe environment for dialogue. Participants will leave with practical skills offering more psychological permission and a highly effective framework that supports how to speak up. \n\nLearning Objectives: \n\nClarifying Your Intentions: Under the significance of identifying the barriers to speaking up and the possible benefits of engaging in difficult conversations.\nIdentify Needs/Values: Learn about Non-Violent Communication as a framework for asking for your needs to be met in a manner that increase the likelihood of messages being heard/received.\nDevelop a Deeper Conversation Framework: Practice speaking and attuning to a partner in order to ensure all parties feel seen\, heard\, and valued.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\nDr. Ellen Choi \nDr Ellen Choi is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Ted Rogers School of Management\, Toronto Metropolitan University\, where she researches how mindfulness\, self-compassion\, authenticity support employee well-being. She holds a PhD from the Ivey Business School and an MSc from the London School of Economics. Dr. Choi teaches in the area of organizational behaviour on topics such as leadership\, training and development\, motivation and decision-making. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging Community of Practice meeting focused on Violence Prevention in the community social services sector. This session will provide a collaborative space for professionals to share and reflect on their current approaches to preventing and managing the risk of workplace violence. \nGuided by CSSHSA Advisors\, participants will share organizational approaches to preventing and responding to workplace violence. Through facilitated discussions and peer exchange\, we will have conversations on the key components of effective violence prevention programs and policies\, methods for identifying and assessing the risk of violence\, and training approaches that help prepare workers to recognize\, prevent\, and respond to violent situations\, whether physical or verbal. \nAt the end of the session\, we’ll reconvene to share key themes and takeaways\, and discuss next steps for continued collaboration and strengthening violence prevention efforts across the sector.
