CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION

THE COR PROGRAM

The Certificate of Recognition (COR) program is a voluntary certification designed to motivate employers to proactively manage occupational health and safety. COR allows employers to assess their health and safety management systems (HSMS) and is a valuable tool for reducing workplace injuries and accidents while enhancing safety culture.

Employers who implement a comprehensive HSMS that exceeds regulatory requirements and follows a “plan, do, check, act” cycle focused on continual improvement are awarded COR. This certification demonstrates a commitment to health and safety, providing several benefits.

There are three general benefits of implementing COR:

Safer & Healthier Workplace

COR-certified employers demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, resulting in a safer and healthier workforce and work environment. By promoting health and safety excellence as part of a nationwide network, your organization showcases an active health and safety management system.

Competitive Advantage

Employers committed to health and safety find it easier to hire and retain workers, thereby improving recruitment and retention in a strained market. The COR certification is recognized and respected across various industries in Canada.

Financial Savings

Financial Savings: Achieving COR certification helps reduce workplace injuries and accidents, protecting the health and safety of all workers. This proactive approach can lead to improved WorkSafeBC experience ratings and result in financial savings.

In May 2023, CSSHSA collaborated with our Advisory Panel and our COR Certifying Partner, the BC Municipal Safety Association (BCMSA), to establish a COR working group. This collaboration resulted in an updated COR manual, now available to the CSS sector.
