How the Board works
CSSHSA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 16 voting members and 2 non-voting members. There are fourteen (14) elected members, including seven (7) employer representatives, four (4) representing unionized organizations, and three (3) non-unionized organizations. There are also seven (7) worker members, composed of five (5) union representatives, and 2 non-union representatives. Finally, there is a Board of Directors appointed independent Chair as well as past-Chair elect.
Board of Directors are elected during the annual general meeting by their respective divisional panel members, the board members serve three-year terms and may be re-elected consecutively.
The board ensures the association fulfill its mandate by:
- Setting the strategic direction of the association.
- Advising the Chief Executive Officer.
- Safeguarding the association’s resources, including approving major financial decisions.
- Communicating with all members, specifically with divisional and geographical constituents.
- Representing and communicate the substance and intent of the association’s initiatives, policies, and decisions in other social services forums.
- Enhancing the association’s public image.
- Acting in accordance with the Society Act and Regulations.
